Windson Recycling is your first choice in the conservation of precious metals from all vehicle applications. With more than a decade of expertise in the UAE market and beyond, we take pride in our process including fast settlement to our suppliers.

There’s also huge demand for recycling centers to recapture precious metals that have spent. The normal life-cycle for a catalytic convertor takes it from your car, to an auto repair shop or a muffler shop, to an auto-wrecking yard, and then on to a recycling center. After processing at the recycling center like Windson Recycling, the core materials are then sent to our refineries, where the precious metals are smelted down. After that, those metal return the market, and the cycle of reuse is complete!

At Windson, we process, recycle and recover precious metals from an array of scrap materials but our core competency is in the recovery of Platinum Group Metals (PGM). We are proud to play a crucial role in the recycling process of these precious metals, while contributing to the environment – gram by gram – for more than a decade now.

Catalytic converters are devices that control the exhaust emissions of an internal combustion engine by converting the exhaust toxic gasses into less toxic substances. Over the last 3-4 decades, thanks to various environmental regulations like The US Clean Air Act and European Directive 94/12/EEC (on ambient air quality), automobiles are obliged to be fitted with catalytic converters that reduce emissions of dangerous gases below the legislative levels.Over the years, the emissions standards have gotten even stricter. With all the demand for catalytic conversion, and increasing requirements for even greater efficiency, new catalytic convertors require even higher quantities of precious metals. Recycling is a key way to help meet demand without depleting our earth’s resources. With increasing governmental and popular concern for our ecosystem has ensured that the demand for high efficiency catalytic convertors will also increase.

Recycling of the spent automotive catalysts targets the extraction of the contained precious metals, contributing significantly towards safeguarding of the natural resources and ensuring the minimization of the environmental pollution, related both to the catalysts disposal and PGMs production. Additionally, the high value of PGMs in spent catalysts makes recycling an interesting preposition.

As one of the leading Catalytic convertor recycling firms in the UAE, End-of-life catalytic converters gets transported to Windson Recycling, from various sources around Middle East and beyond, for processing, recycling and recovery of precious metals. We ensure that the collection, transportation, storage and treatment of spent auto catalysts are carried out in a manner that provide protection for the environment and human health and in compliance with legal requirements.

After cutting open the outer steel shell, we use best in class decanting process and dust collection filters to collect every precious metal content in the converter and maximize the return from your catalytic converters. The precious-metal-bearing carrier material and the non-precious-metal-bearing steel casing are separated at Windson’s workshop in Ajman, UAE. After the sorting, the converters are de-canned, i.e. the metallic canister and the wool (fibre mat) are removed from the ceramic catalyst using a mechanical process. The steel casings are removed by an automatic cutting machine.

Windson Recycling uses best-in-class German machinery and techniques to powder the ceramic combs into fine powder. It also has built-in splitter that can collect a representative sample that represent 100% match with the material supplied.

Sample derived from the mill is homogenized to perfection using a mixer for almost 20 minutes. We obtain a homogeneous representative sample for qualitative and quantitative analysis using appropriate sampling procedures. It is then driven to a pre-crusher in order to downsize their dimensions and to a mill in order to extract a fine homogeneous powder, which contains the precious metals.

Knowing the PGM content of catalyst material is vital for recyclers to be able to price their material correctly. Sample preparation is one of our core competencies and our expert staff use the most advanced techniques during this process. After homogenizing, a small representative sample of material is collected, using cutting edge technology, on the basis of which a valuation is made for the overall material. This sample of around 100 grams, which is analysed in the laboratory to determine its precious metal content, is representative of several tonnes of material. We can accurately assay the amount of palladium, platinum and rhodium for each type of converter. All work steps, such as homogenisation and sampling, meet clearly defined standards and can be reproduced at any time.

We undertake the entire sampling process in-house, from purchase, collection, decanning and processing to sampling and value determination before sending the ceramic powder to refinery partners. This allows us to reduce material wastage during transportation, shorten processing time and optimise cost savings. Plus, having our own in-house capability means that we can quickly determine the exact quantity of palladium, platinum and rhodium in the materials. Our experienced team will then provide accurate grading and hedge our customers’ Platinum Group Metals (PGM) material to protect them from losses when prices fall and better manage our own risk and liquidity.

We use London Fix prices set by the LBMA (London Bullion Market Association) which is updated twice a day. Our prices reflect the true value on your scrap converters at the time of the transaction, as per the bullion market rate on that day of PGM material identified in your converter.

Based on the determined mixture of the materials and the current value of the precious metals involved, we initiate instant settlement with the supplier. Easy as that!
